Environmental management schemes ensure that our land is maintained in good agricultural and environmental condition, providing Improved conditions for farmland wildlife and improvements to water quality and reductions in soil erosion. The farm's landscape character is enhanced with traditional stone walls and preserved historical features and archaeological artefacts.

About our Farm

The Peak District Farm Shop is the inspiration of two farming families working within the heart of The Peak District.

We became aware that our quality meat was disappearing into the mass food chain alongside meat of varying and dubious origin and quality. We decided to offer the consumer the choice of buying their meat from rare breed, traditionally reared animals with proven high welfare and husbandry standards whilst preserving the environment and natural landscape

Nick, with the support of his wife Helen and three year old son John, runs a mixed dairy, beef, sheep and rare breed pig farm near Dovedale in the heart of the White Peak. The farm is set 1,000 feet above sea level on rocky limestone pasture its bank sides overlooking the River Dove on land which is within an English Nature Reserve.

David and Janet farm in a traditional way on their small upland farm on the edge of the National Park. They have flocks of pedigree Herdwick, Wensleydale and Texel ewes, and a herd of Dexter and Welsh Black cattle that graze the centuries old, flower rich meadows. Pork is produced from their rare breed Tamworth and Gloucester Old Spot pigs. Janet runs a farm shop that specialises in woollen goods and a workshop where she teaches traditional crafts.

Both farms are covered by an Environmental Stewardship Scheme, the animals are all extensively reared by traditional husbandry methods, and the farms are fully farm assured to either freedom food or FABBLE standard. This provides high welfare standards and sustainability, and ensures that the livestock bred on our farms is tasty, succulent and tender.
